With just three weeks left before the NCAA Regional, the Georgetown University track & field team traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. as the Tar Heels hosted the Taylor Cattle Farms Carolina Classic at the UNC Finley Fields, Fetzer Field and Belk Track. The Hoyas put up four qualifying times including a more than impressive performance from graduate student Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./Academy of Holy Names) ran a PR in the 1500m as she won the event with a time of 4:16.76. Georgetown University Head Football Coach Kevin Kelly has announced that 32 student-athletes will join the Hoya program this fall for the 2008 season. The newcomers come from 16 different states, including five from Texas, four from Connecticut, Ohio and New Jersey. There are also two from Florida, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and one apiece from Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia and Wisconsin. It's not often that a player is selected a captain when he hasn't played since the start of the 2007 season. Meet Georgetown senior men's lacrosse player Matt McBride. McBride has continued to be part of the Hoya program after concussions sidelined his playing career.
His is a story of perseverance. It is the story of a young man who came from across the country not knowing what to expect when he arrived on campus. It is the story of a lacrosse player at Georgetown who was cut the first time he tried out, but now finds himself starting at one of most the important positions in the game on a team that is ranked among the top-five teams in the country.
