Georgetown Athletic Department Establishes New Hoop Club Seating Guidelines
June 20, 2006
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's basketball team enjoyed one of the most exciting years in program history during the 2005-06 season. The Hoyas posted a 23-10 record, beat three teams ranked among the top-10 in the country and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The 2006-07 season promises to be one of the most exciting for the Blue & Gray as the program aims for the BIG EAST and NCAA Tournament, as well as the celebration of a century of the sport on the Hilltop. Among the many reasons for the success of Georgetown men's basketball and the Hoya Athletic Department has been its continued and increased support of donors. Financial support of athletics through groups such as the Hoya Hoop Club helps to pay for team travel, equipment and scholarships to recruit the best student-athletes possible. The Athletic Department announced recently, after consultation with a focus group made up of Hoya Hoop Club Board leadership, that giving level requirements for seat locations throughout the Hoop Club sections would increase for the 2006-07 season, the first increase in eight years. The department will also expand Hoop Club sections in the Verizon Center. "We value the financial support of our donors and season ticket holders," Director of Athletics Bernard Muir said. "After studying the financial support structures of our competitors in the BIG EAST and nationally, we think that this will help us to remain competitive financially, as well as on the court." A map of the Verizon Center with new donation levels was mailed to all season ticket holders. In addition, season ticket prices for Hoya men's basketball will remain the same. In July, the Hoop Club solicitation for the 2006-07 season and season ticket renewal information will be sent out. Over the following months, the Georgetown ticket sales staff will work with each season ticket holder to accommodate desired seat locations based on giving levels within the revised seating plan.
