Georgetown Leads BIG EAST with 256 BIG EAST All-Academic Team Selections

The BIG EAST Conference named more than 2,400 student-athletes to the 2007-08 BIG EAST All-Academic Team Thursday. Georgetown led all 16 conference teams, earning 256 selections and topping last year's total of 207 selections. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored event, earned a varsity letter, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses. The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. Georgetown's 256 student-athletes honorees led the BIG EAST, followed by Notre Dame (237) and Villanova (213). Women's crew earned 53 selections, leading all teams that compete in the BIG EAST and every Georgetown team. The men's soccer team came in second (26) among GU teams, and the women's swimming and diving team finished third (22).
