The Alfond Family Scholarship was donated in May of 1990 by Harry Alfond of Dexter, Maine. Mr. Alfond, the founder of Dexter Shoe Company, is affiliated with the University through his two grandsons who are alumni. Both David Pearl, C'90 and Daniel Pearl, C'92 did not play sports at Georgetown but had played Men's Lacrosse in high school.
The only qualification for the student to receive the scholarship is that they are a full-time undergraduate student playing intercollegiate men's lacrosse for Georgetown. The donor prefers that the student-athlete comes from the geographic area of New England. There are no academic preferences attached to it. The scholarship can be given to one player or broken up among two or more men's lacrosse players.
