Tom and Marge Curtis of Hingham, Massachusetts and parents of the late Tom Jr., B'68, in their son's name, donated the Curtis Scholarship. Tom Jr. was an experienced sailor at Georgetown and remained in sailing as a boat broker after graduation until an unfortunate sailing accident took his life in 1979.
The scholarship has specific preferences listed below: (1) The endowed scholarship fund, known as the Thomas E. Curtis Jr. Endowed Athletic Scholarship, is intended for one or more undergraduate student(s) enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program who have demonstrated strong interest and involvement in Sailing.
(2) For such time the granting of this scholarship is disallowed by the rules of the Inter- collegiate Yacht Racing Association, it is our intent that this scholarship be granted to one or more undergraduate students who participate in Intercollegiate Athletics, (preferably women's lacrosse), as determined by the Director of Athletics.
(3) It is the donor's expressed interest to give preference for the scholarship to students who live in the geographic area of New England.
(4) The scholarship will be awarded by Georgetown University to qualified full-time undergraduate student(s) who meet the stated criteria of this scholarship.
