Georgetown Qualifies for ICSA National Championship with Second Place Finish at MAISA Women's Championship

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's sailing team highlighted the weekend action, placing second at the MAISA Women's Championship to qualify them for the ICSA Women's National Championship on May 23-25. In other action this weekend, the Hoyas were sixth at the MAISA Open Championship and 15th for the Thompson Trophy.

At the MAISA Women's, hosted by Cornell Univeristy, the Hoyas were second of nine schools with 93 points, trailing only St. Mary's, who totaled 55 points over the 30 weekend races. Junior Blaire Herron (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and senior Emily Siguler (Conway, Mass./The Hotchkiss School) led the way, winning the A division with 26 points, one point ahead of St. Mary's. The pair was dominant, finishing among the top-three in all 15 starts, including seven victories. Georgetown was fourth in the B division with 67 points. Sophomore Emily Babbitt (Dartmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang) and senior Jessica Stewart (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) started the first 14 races with junior Jamie Loeks (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and senior Theresa Salerno (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) taking the reins for the lone race on Sunday.

At the MAISA Open, the host Hoyas were sixth of 16 schools with 110 points over the 18 races. St. Mary's took the title with 39 points. Freshmen Hugh McBride (Darien, Conn./Green Farms Academy) and Alexandra Taylor (Hobe Sound, Fla./The Benjamin School) were fifth in the A division with 48 points, finishing in the top-five in six starts including winning the second race. In the B division, freshman Caila Johnson (Newport, R.I./St. Paul's School) and sophomore Madeleine Maguire (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) were seventh with 62 points.

 

 

For the Thompson Trophy, Georgetown was 15th of 18 schools with 352 points. In the B division, freshman Marco Teixidor (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. John's School) and sophomore Andi Bailey (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Island/Antilles School) was ninth with 145 points over the 16 races, while in the A division, senior Langdon Mitchell (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) and junior Leigh Fogwell (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) were 17th.

The Hoyas gear up for the America Trophy, the qualifying event for the ICSA Coed National Championship, this weekend at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
