Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University sailing team made a move to eighth on Thursday, during the second day of the 2007 ICSA National Coed Dinghy Championship at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The Hoyas improved to sixth place midway through the day, but slipped over the last couple races of the day to sit in eighth place with 224 points, through the first 28 races of the championship. Charleston took the lead over the field of 18 schools this afternoon with 168 points, holding a fourth point edge over Dartmouth and a 16 point lead on UC-Irvine. Junior Chris Behm (Hampton, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and sophomore Carly Chamberlain (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) improved one spot to fifth in the A division. The duo began the day well, finishing in the top-seven in their first five starts, including a second place showing, but fell into the bottom half of the field in the final two races of the day. In the B division, seniors J.B. Turney (Winnetka, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Caroline LaMotte (Oxford, Md./The Hotchkiss School) remained in 11th with 125 points. Turney and LaMotte had a much better second day however, beginning with a second and third place finish in the day's first two races. Competition concludes tomorrow with the final eight races, four in each division, of the national championship.
