Former Hoya Sailor Andrew Campbell Nominated for the 2007 US SAILING Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Award

Jan. 2, 2008

Washington, D.C. - Former Hoya sailor Andrew Campbell (F'06) was named one of 10 nominees for the 2007 US SAILING Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Award, it was announced last week. During his career at Georgetown, Campbell was a four-time All-American and recipient of the 2006 Everett B Morris Trophy, recognizing the National Sailor of the Year.

Established in 1961 by US SAILING and sponsored by Rolex since 1980, the annual presentation of US SAILING's Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards are widely regarded as the sport's ultimate recognition of an individual's outstanding on-the-water achievements for the calendar year.

These prestigious awards are viewed by the sail-racing industry as among the nation's top sailing distinctions. A slate of nominees, determined by the membership of US SAILING, is presented to a panel of accomplished sailing journalists, who together discuss the merits of each nominee and then vote to determine the ultimate winners.

Earlier this year, Campbell became the first Hoya sailor to ever qualify for the Olympic Games this weekend, when he won the U.S. Laser Class qualifiers in Newport, R.I.
