2/26/2002 WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Georgetown University sailing team competed in two regattas this past weekend, highlighted by a first-place overall finish at the Charleston Team Race Intersectional. At the Charleston Team Race Intersectional, the Hoyas came from behind to sweep St. Mary's, Charleston, Harvard and the top spot. Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), Barbara Hall (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy), Brian Bissell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), Melanie Wood (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneatles), Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School), Leah Williams (South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) and Alex Holtan (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamoroneck) led the sixth-ranked Hoyas to a 15-5 finish. Georgetown also competed in the Navy Team Race Scrimmage, where their 7-9 record was good enough for a third place finish. Byron LaMotte (Oxford, Md./The Hotchkiss School), Emilie Lincoln (New York, N.Y./The Hewitt School), Thatcher Spring (Nantucket, Mass./Belmont Hill), Chris Harvey (Rillton, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), Derek Webster (Irvine, Calif./University High School), Colleen Hehir, Bill Jorch (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Gabi Maguire (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), Lindsay Bello (Rye, N.Y./Rye), Pat Donegan (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and Kat Penberthy (Rowayton, Conn./The Taft School) all helped to propel the Hoyas into the top five. The Hoyas sail again next weekend in the Georgetown Team Race and the Old Dominion Open.
