Six Hoya Sailors Selected to 2001 ICSA/Ronstan All-America Team

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University coed sailing team members Brian Bissell (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), Ken Ward (Jr., Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School), Ryan Costello (Sr., Fairhaven, Mass./Tabor Academy), Baye Emery (Sr., Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Dana Scalere (Sr., Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Leah Williams (Jr., South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) were named to the 2001 ICSA/ Ronstan All-American team.

Bissell, Costello and Ward were selected as All-American Skippers. All three skippers helped Georgetown win the first National Championship in the program's history at the 2001 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association/Ronstan North American Team Racing Championship. Costello was a skipper for the Hoya's "A" division team at the 2001 ICSA North American Dinghy Championship. While Bissell and Ward were a part of GU's "B" division team at the Dinghy Championship, where the Hoyas ended the Championship in fifth place overall.

Emery, Scalere and Williams were all selected as All-American Crews. All three were part of the crew that helped bring home the 2001 Team Racing Championship. In the 2001 Dinghy Championship Scalere was a crewmember on the Hoya's "A" division team that finished third in the division. Both Emery and Williams were on the "B" division squad that ended the Championship in sixth place.

The spring of 2001-season saw the coed team, ranked #1 from March 19 to April 17 by the Sailing World college rankings. The Hoyas closed out a stellar year by winning their first ever National Championship at the Team Championship and placed fifth at the Dinghy Championship to complete their season.
