Georgetown Sailors Win Hap Moore Team Race Intersectional

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Georgetown University sailing team competed in four regattas this past weekend, highlighted by a first place overall finish at the Hap Moore Team Race Intersectional held at the Coast Guard.

At the Hap Moore Team Race Intersectional at the Coast Guard, the Hoyas finished in first place. Georgetown sailors included Curtis Flood (Richmond, Ky./St. George's School), Kat Penberthy (Rowayton, Conn./The Taft School), Diana Hocker (St. George's School), Brian Bissell (Newport Beach Calif./Newport Harbor), Barbara Hall (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy), Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School), and Dorothee Bergin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley).

The Georgetown women’s team finished in sixth place overall with a total of 387 points at the Navy Fall Women's Regatta. The "A" Division team, consisting of Liz Sampson (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck), Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), and Melanie Wood (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) placed ninth with a total of 154 points. Leah Williams (South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy), Cordo Carraher (Oxford, Mass./St. Andrews School, Del.), Dana Petrillo (Toms River, N.J./Ranney School), Shelly Wentworth, Melanie Wood, and Gabi Maguire (Amherst, Mass./Amherst High School) of the "B" Division team won eighth place with 144 points. Eliza Ryan (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) of the "C" Division finished in fifth place with 89 points.

Georgetown’s sailors also competed at the MAISA Singlehanded Championships at Kings Point. Georgetown sailors, Bill Jorch (Northport, N.Y./Northport) placed thirteenth with 205 points and Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) finished sixteenth with 224 points.

At the Hanbury Regatta at Christopher Newport, the Hoyas finished second overall with 65 points. The "A" Division team, comprised of Pat Donegan (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and Lindsay Bello (Rye, N.Y./Rye) placed third. Scott Driskel (Virgina Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Colleen Hehir of the "B" Division team came in second with 25 points.

The Hoyas are in action again next weekend at the Navy Fall Intersectional, Yale Women's Intersectional, and the Washington College Open.
