Georgetown Sailors Finish Second in Navy Fall Intersectional and Washington College Open

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Georgetown University sailing team competed in three regattas this past weekend, highlighted by second place overall finishes at the Navy Fall Intersectional and the Washington College Open.

At the Navy Fall Intersectional, the Hoyas placed second with a total of 521 points. Georgetown’s "A" division team, comprised of Curtis Flood (Richmond, Ky./St. George’s School), Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School) and Leah Williams (South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy), finished the weekend in fourth place with 131 points. Brian Bissell (Newport Beach Calif./Newport Harbor), Melanie Wood (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles), and Barbara Hall (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy), GU’s "B" division team, finished in first place with a total of 106 points. Bill Jorch (Northport, N.Y./Northport) finished ninth in the "C" division with 152 points, while Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) placed sixth in the "D" division with 132 points.

The Georgetown women's team ended their weekend at the Yale Women's Intersectional with a total of 248 points, good for an overall 15th place finish. Elizabeth Ryan (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) came in 12th in the "A" division with 112 points. Georgetown's "B" division team, consisting of Cordo Carraher (Oxford, Mass./St. Andrews School, Del.) and Emilie Lincoln (New York, N.Y./The Hewitt School) placed 14th with 136 points.

Georgetown’s sailors also competed in the Washington College Open, where the Hoyas finished in second place overall with a total of 73 points. Derek Webster (Irvine, Calif./University High School), Barbara Hall, and Cecile Divoy (Paris, France/Ecole Active Bilingue GM) finished second in the "A" division with 40 points. Peter Frantz (New York, N.Y./St. Andrew's) and Jeff Chang (Davidsonville, Md./ South River) of the "B" division, placed second with 33 points.
