Georgetown Sailors Finish First in Kings Point Dinghy Open

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Georgetown University sailing team competed in three regattas this past weekend, highlighted by a first place overall finish at the Kings Point Dinghy Open, the Hoyas third consecutive win at the KP Open.

At the Kings Point Dinghy Open, the Hoyas placed first with a total of 135 points. Georgetown’s "A" division team, comprised of Bill Jorch (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Byron LaMotte (Oxford, Md./The Hotchkiss School), Gabi Maguire (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), and Dorothee Bergin (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesly) finished the weekend in fourth place with 93 points. Bergin, Maguire, and Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) GU’s "B" division team, dominated their division finishing in first place with a total of 42 points.

The 13th-ranked Georgetown women's team ended their weekend at the Stu Nelson Women’s Intersectional at Connecticut College with a total of 188 points, good for an overall 5th place finish. Elizabeth Ryan (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) came in fourth in the "B" division with 78 points. Georgetown's "B" division team, consisting of Elizabeth Sampson (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Megan O’Neill (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) placed eighth with 112 points.

Georgetown’s sailors also competed in the Hoyt Trophy at Brown, where the Hoyas finished in sixth place overall with a total of 209 points. Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School) and Barbara Hall finished eighth in the "A" division with 99 points. Thatcher Spring (Nantucket, Mass./Belmont Hill) and Chris Harvey (Rillton, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) of the "B" division, placed seventh with 110 points.

The Hoyas sail again next weekend in the Navy J-24 Invite, Princeton Women’s Invite, the Women’s Intersectional at Harvard, and the War Memorial Regatta at the New York Maritime.
