WASHINGTON, D.C.— Apart from the ICSA Men's Singlehanded championship, the Georgetown Sailing Team competed in five other regattas over the weekend of October 23-24. The team competed in the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded National Championship, the MAISA Freshman Championship, the MAISA Sloop Championship, the KP Dinghy, and the Stu Nelson Women’s Regatta. 

At the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded National Championship held in Wayzata, Mn., Georgetown’s Cordo Carraher (Oxford, Md./ St. Andrew's School) finished 10^th with 152 points.

At the MAISA Freshman Championship held at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Georgetown placed first with 93 points. The Hoya Freshmen dominated this event from start to finish showing that Georgetown has the best recruiting class in MAISA once again.  Both the A and B division teams finished first. Chris Behm (Hampton, Va./ Hampton Roads Academy) and Blaire Herron (Coronado, Calif./Coronado High School) sailed in the A division and finished with 53 points winning by 15 points and winning 9 of the 15 races. Zach Kavanaugh (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth High School) and Leigh Fogwell (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich High School) sailed in the B division and finished with 40 points, winning their division by 30 points. With the spectacular finish, the team qualified for the Atlantic Coast Freshman championship, held at Navy on November 6-7.

At the MAISA Sloop Championship held at Navy, the Georgetown team, skippered by Ed duMoulin (Larchmont, N.Y./ Mamaroneck) and crewed by Steve Streit (Stanford, Conn./ Greenwich), Seamus Kraft (Marblehead, Mass./ Marblehead), and Barbara Hall (Marion, Mass./ Tabor Academy), placed sixth of 10 teams. Despite good races, the team hadn’t sailed a J24 before the Regatta, hurting their overall finish.

Georgetown also placed sixth at the KP Dinghy Open held at Kings Point. The A division team of Kyle Bergeron (Wellesley, Mass./ Belmont Hill) and Kelly Lanzara (Great Falls, Va./ Bishop O'Connell) placed fourth with 68 points while the B division team of Dan Esdorn (Rye, N.Y./ Rye High School) and Libby Perkowski (New York, N.Y./ Phillips Academy) placed fifth with 79 points.

At the Stu Nelson Women’s Regatta held at Connecticut College, the Hoyas struggled against the other teams, placing 15^th. With the starting skippers at other meets, this meet provided experience for Caroline LaMotte (Oxford, Md./ The Hotchkiss School), Megan Melican (Ann Arbor, Mich./ The Hotchkiss School), Jess Stewart (Toms River, N.J./ Toms River South), and Katherine Wade (Pensacola, Fl./ Pensacola).
