October 30, 2001 WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Georgetown University Sailing Team competed in four separate regattas this weekend, highlighted by a first place finish at the Princeton Women's Open. Four Georgetown sailors competed at the Princeton Women’s Open, where the Hoyas won the regatta with a combined score of 42 points. Sophomores Lindsay Holloman (Santa Monica, Calif./Harvard-Westlake School) and Emilie Lincoln (New York, N.Y./The Hewitt School) competed in the "A" division, while freshman Katie Zaleski (Brielle, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and sophomore Gabi Maguire (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) raced in the "B" division. Both teams won their respective divisions. Holloman and Lincoln finished first in the "A" division with 23 points, while Zaleski and Maguire won the "B" division with 19 points. Georgetown also competed at the War Memorial Regatta in New York, where they finished in fourth place overall with 122 points. The "B" division team of Curtis Flood (Richmond, Ky/St. George’s School), Brian Bissell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor), Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), Melanie Wood (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and Leah Williams (South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) finished second with 53 points, while the "A" division team of Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School), Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Williams finished in sixth place with 690 points. The Hoyas’ performance qualified them for the Atlantic Cost Championships in early November and also guaranteed them a second place schedule for the 2001-2002 season. Georgetown sailors competed in two other regattas this past weekend. Four Hoyas sailed in the Women’s Intersectional at Harvard Larks on the Charles River. The Hoyas finished in 13th place overall, with a total of 250 points. The "A" division boat of Elizabeth Sampson (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Diana Hocker (St. George’s School) finished 13th with 128 points, while the "B" division boat of Elizabeth Ryan (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and Kaitlyn O’Donnell (Newton, Mass.) finished 11th with 132 points. At the 11 team Navy Sloop Invite, the Georgetown crew of Peter Frantz (New York, N.Y./St. Andrew’s), Scott Driskel (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Derek Webster (Irvine, Calif./University High School) finished in fourth place overall. The Hoyas will compete in two regattas this upcoming weekend—the MAISA Women’s Regatta at Navy and the MAISA Freshman Regatta at Old Dominion.
