Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving teams swept VMI, Radford and Howard on Saturday at McCarthy Pool. The men's team (3-4) defeated Howard, 144.50-75.50, and VMI, 181-59. The women's team (6-4), meanwhile defeated Howard, 162-69; Radford, 149-82; and VMI 192-21.
For the men, freshman Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) had a stellar performance, as he won the 200 yard freestyle event and the 200 butterfly. Also winning two events was senior diver Santini Reali (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View) in the one meter diving and the three meter diving events. Senior tri-captain Kevin Rieffel (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College High) swam to a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:35.14. Also finishing in first place were freshmen David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) and Christopher McGrath (Randolph, Mass./Boston College High) in the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle, respectively.
On the women's side, senior tri-captain Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) swept three different events, the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle. Sophomore diver Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./The Madeira School) swept both diving events, the one meter and three meter diving, today as well. Rounding out the women's top performances were junior Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) and senior tri-captain Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), who won the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke, respectively.
Other results from Saturday's swimming action resulted in the VMI men's team defeating Howard, 117-97; the Radford women defeating Howard, 116-77; Howard women defeating VMI, 132-34; and the Radford women defeating VMI, 142-25.
