Jan. 14, 2007 Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown swimming and diving program dropped a tri-meet decision to St. Bonaventure and BIG EAST Conference opponent West Virginia today at the WVU Natatorium in Morgantown, W.Va. The men's team dropped a 167-55 decision to 20th-ranked (www.collegeswimming.com) West Virginia and lost to St. Bonaventure 167-73 to drop to 0-8 overall on the year and 0-3 in league action. The women's team drops to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in BIG EAST meets with a 174-64 loss to West Virginia and a 168.5-68.5 loss to St. Bonaventure.
For the men, the quartet of sophomore co-captain Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and freshmen Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High), John Deppe (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) was the highlight of the tri-meet as they took first place in the 400 yard freestyle medley with a time of 3:21.71. Robinson turned in two other strong performances with a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle and a fourth-place finish in the 1000 freestyle while Going took third in the 200 backstroke. Freshman Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Damien) also swam to a third-place finish with a time of 2:17.62 in the 200 breaststroke.
Highlighting the women's meets was freshman Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell), who tied for second place in the 50 freestyle with a time 25.27 and was also a member of two relay teams finishing in the top four. The third-place 400 freestyle relay squad featured Alito, junior Megan Maragakes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), freshman Suzanne Waller (Darien, Conn./Darien) and sophomore Katelyn O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School) as they finished the event with a time of 3:52.61. In the 400 medley relay, Alito teamed up with fellow freshmen Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and junior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) to take fourth place with a time of 4:05.67. Stark also took home fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.85. Also turning in a strong performance for the Blue and Gray was junior Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School), who swam the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:30.91.
