WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) made her final meet at McCarthy Pool a memorable one, winning back-to-back events by taking the 100 yard freestyle (53.45) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.12) against St. Bonaventure on Senior Day. The Hoya women still fell to the Bonnies, 145-97, while the men lost, 154-71 to the No. 17 ranked Mid-Major program in the country. Sophomore Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and junior Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) each posted BIG EAST qualifying times. Vickroy finished third in the 100 yard freestyle, coming in at 55.09 and junior Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) posted a time of 4:13.87 in the 400 yard individual medley. Sophomore Mary McGuire (Port Chester, N.Y./Sacred Heart) won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:40.57 and junior Goran Bistric (1:54.22) took the 200 yard backstroke in 1:54.22. Sophomore Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) and Robinson just behind Bistric, in second and third respectively for the Hoyas. The Hoya women divers turned in strong performances, with freshmen Becca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and sophomore Jessica Rettig (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor Univ. High) took the top three spots respectively, in the one-meter dive. Karniski (242.70) and Jenkinson (225.95) placed one-two in the three-meter dive.
St. Bonaventure's Anneli Johnson set a new McCarthy Pool record, fininshing the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:20.76. The Hoyas will travel to Connecticut for their final two dual meets next weekend, before the BIG EAST Conference Championships. The women will square off with Central Connecticut State on Friday, Feb. 1 and Connecticut on Saturday Feb. 2. The men take on Connecticut and the US Merchant Marine Academy in a double dual meet next Saturday at 1 p.m. |
