Feb. 2, 2008 New Britain, Conn. - The Georgetown women's swimming and diving team spoiled Senior Night at Central Connecticut State University, as sophomores Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary) and Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) each won two events, in the Hoyas 153-147 victory. Stark picked up the Hoyas first win, taking first place in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:10.05. Senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) won the 50 yard freestyle in 25.41 to pick up nine points for the Hoyas. Alito finished behind her in 26.06, as the Hoyas took three of the top four places in the event. GU took the top three places in the 200 yard breaststroke, as sophomore Emma Denvir (Bethesda, Md./Stone Ridge) finished in 2:32.33. Freshman Katherine Lee (New York, N.Y./Spence) finished next with a time of 2:33.40 and sophomore Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) rounded out the top three finishing in 2:34.69. Freshman Mallory Kiplinger (Darien, Conn./Darien) won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:18.88 and Alito won the 100 yard butterfly, her second win of the day, in 58.44. Stark picked up her second win of the meet, taking first in the 200 yard individual medley, with a time of, 2:10.51. Georgetown swept the top three places in the three meter dive. Freshman Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) finished first with 242 points, while classmate Becca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) finished second with 215 points. Junior Jessica Rettig (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS) came in third with a score of 195.45.
The blue and gray stay in Connecticut for a dual meet on Saturday with University of Connecticut at 1 p.m. The meet will be the Hoyas' last before going into preparations for the BIG EAST Conference Championships. |
