Feb. 15, 2007 Washington, D.C. - After the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Conference Championship, held at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y., the Georgetown swimming and diving program has already broken one school record, the women's 800 yard freestyle relay. The women's team is currently 10th of 12 teams while the men are in 11th place of 12 teams. Notre Dame holds the lead in both the men's and women's competition.
The quartet of freshmen Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and junior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) broke the school record in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:43.28 to take 10th place in the event. The previous record (7:44.26) was set in 2005.
The women swam to another 10th place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.47 from the squad of sophomore Katelyn O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School), freshman Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell), Stark and Vickroy.
The men's team took 10th place in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:01.44 from the quartet of freshmen Eric Mooney (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit), Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Darien), James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and sophomore co-captain Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon). In the 200 medley relay, the foursome of sophomore Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart), sophomore co-captain David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville), freshman Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) and Koh took 11th place with a time of 1:37.08.
The BIG EAST Championship extends through Saturday, February 17 with morning preliminary sessions beginning daily at 10 a.m. and an evening sessions beginning at 6 p.m. |
