Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown swimming and diving program broke three school records on the final day of competition at the BIG EAST Championship held at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. on Saturday night. The women finished 10th of 12 teams while the men placed 11th of 12. The two school records broken on the final day of competition totals 13 school records broken over the four-day championship. Notre Dame took the women's competition while West Virginia placed first on the men's side.
For the men, sophomore standout Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) broke his own record in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.91, enough for a 14th seed going into the consolation finals for the evening session. Bistric's previous record was 1:52.41 set in 2006.
On the women's side, junior Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) broke the school record in the 200 butterfly to take 20th place in the event with a time of 2:08.54. Senior Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) previously held the record with a time of 2:08.72 set in 2006. The quartet of junior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) and freshmen Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Barnstable)and Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga)also set the school record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time 4:33.58.
This concludes the 2006-07 swimming and diving season.
