Easton Meadow, N.Y. - Senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) continues her assault of the Georgetown swimming and diving record book setting two more school-records and junior David Ballinger (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) broke the oldest existing school-record in the 200 individual medley (IM) during the second day of the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Ceneter on Thursday. Colling, who had helped set two school-records on Wednesday as a part of two relay teams, joined freshman Mallory Kiplinger (Titusville, N.J./Pennington), sophomore Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and sophomore Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) on a 200 freestyle relay team that finished ninth in a time of 1:37.08. The time shaved just over seven-tenths of a second off a school-record set a year ago. Colling was not done, as she set a new school record in the 50 freestyle during the preliminary round, finishing in 24.09, shaving time off of Alito's 24.68 mark, set in 2007. Ballinger broke the Hoyas' oldest-mark, finishing the 200 IM in 1:57.18, breaking Jim Stekart's mark of 1:57.72, set in 1995. Freshman Hamilton Jordan (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) also bested the time, finishing just behind Ballinger in 1:57.45. Junior Dan Robinson finished the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.44. Men pulled ahead of Villanova by 4 points and lengthened the lead over Seton Hall 8 points behind Cincy In the women's 200 IM, sophomore Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) finished 19th with a time of 2:07.70. Sophomore James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peters Prep) was GU's top place-finisher in the men's 500 freestyle, finishing 34th in a time of 4:47.93. LiVolsi finished just in front of sophomore Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Damien), who finished 35th, in 4:49.83.
The men's 200 freestyle relay finished in eighth place in a time of 1:26.08, helping the blue and gray pull ahead of Villanova by for points and lengthen its lead over Seton Hall. With two days at the BIG EAST Championships completed Georgetown is within eight points of Cincinnati. On Friday, Hoya swimmers will compete in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke.
