Harrisonburg, Va. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team started its season strong, posting 15 BIG EAST Championship qualifying times, three times that move into the school's all-time top ten list and one freshman record, as the men defeated Virginia Military Academy 202-73, while the women fell to James Madision 192-100 on Saturday. Mallory Kiplinger posted the first BIG EAST qualifying time of the afternoon in the women's 200 yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 1:57.86. Kiplinger also earned a qualifying time in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing fourth in 25.16 and in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing second in 54.36. Laura Stark also recorded a qualifying time in the 100 free, finishing fourth in 54.88. The Hoyas took the top four spots in the men's 100 yard backstroke as Goran Bistric and Wes Going finished in the top two spots, both posting qualifying times. Bistric also went on to win the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 1:57.20 another qualifying time. Freshman Victor Lopez-Cantera was one of four freshman to record qualifying times on Saturday, as he won the 100 yard butterfly in 52.50, the fifth fastest time in school history. Lopez-Cantera also won the 200 yard butterfly in 1:56.32 the fourth fastest time in school history and a freshman team record. Freshman Kristen Pratt finished in second place in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:12.24, the sixth fastest time in team history. Her classmate Kathryn Berg finished fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:11.51, a qualifying time. Freshman Brad Crist won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:01.57, a qualifying time, followed closely by Thomas Graham, who finished in 1:02.18.
