Hoyas Men and Women Fall To Colonials

Jan. 22, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team held slight leads midway through their dual meet with George Washington University at the Charles E. Smith Events Center on Sunday. But two close losses in the men's and women's 400 yard freestyle relay, the meets last event, sealed the Hoyas fate, as the men fell, 117.5-104, while the women lost, 123-114.

GU took first place in seven of the meets first nine events as the men's and women's 400 yard medley relay teams helped the Hoyas jump out quickly. Junior Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart), freshmen Thomas Graham (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) and Hamilton Jordan (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and sophomore Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) finished in 3:37.65 for the win. Sophomores Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga ), Emma Denvir (Bethesda, Md./Stone Ridge) and Laura Alito (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and freshman Mallory Kiplinger (Titusville, N.J./Pennington) won the women's race, finishing in 4:06.72.

Freshman Tom Crecelius (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) kept GU rolling, winning the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:15.21, as sophomore teammate James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) finished just behind him in 10:19.00.

Sophomore Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Damien) won his third event of the 2008, taking the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.67.

Going won the men's 50 yard freestyle in 22.46, defeating George Washington's Tom Pullen by less than a tenth of a second and senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) won the women's 50 yard freestyle in 25.44.

Freshman Ali Christie (Edison, N.J./Mount St. Mary's Academy) won two races, taking both the 400 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle and senior Claire Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) won the 200 yard butterfly for the women.

Bistric, junior Dan Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and sophomore James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) finished in the top three spots, with Bistric winning in a time of 1:55.95.
