WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team will travel to New Britain, Conn. on Friday, as the women's team competes with Central Connecticut State at 5 p.m. The Hoyas' then head 45-minutes east to Storrs, Conn. on Saturday, as the women face Connecticut, while the men have a double dual meet with the Huskies and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 1 p.m. The dual meets are the last of the 2008 season, as GU will begin to prepare for the 2008 BIG EAST Conference Championship Meet beginning Wednesday, Feb. 20. The Hoyas enter the weekend following losses in the season's final home meet at McCarthy Pool to St. Bonaventure's. The men fell 154-71 and the women lost 145-97 to the Atlantic 10 powerhouse. Junior Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) posted a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 400 IM, stopping the clock at 4:13.87, while junior Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) won the 200 back with a time of 1:54.22. Senior Caitlin Colling (Monson, Mass./Monson) won two events in her final meet at McCarthy Pool. Colling finished first in the 100 free (53.45) and the 200 free (1:56.12). Sophomore Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) earned a BIG EAST qualifier in the 100 free, coming in at 55. Freshmen Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and Becca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) finished one-two in the 3-meter dives with scores of 242.70 points and 225.95 points, respectively. Central Connecticut State hosts the Hoyas' women having won two of its last three dual meets. Last weekend, the Blue Devils squeaked out a 131-129 over host Wagner. The Huskies' men and women have yet to lose a dual meet during the 2007-08 season, with each team posting 5-0 records and two invitational first place finishes. Last weekend, UConn's men defeated Rhode Island (207-84) and Drexel (169-125). The women also cruised past Rhode Island (202.5-92.5) and Drexel (184-104).
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy holds a 9-1 dual meet record into this weekend's double dual meet. Last Saturday, the Mariners defeated the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 157-143, their first win over the Bears since 1985. |
