March 12, 2007 Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown swimming and diving team has been named a CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) Academic All-American team for the Fall 2006 semester. This semester, 230 schools (335 teams) met the criteria for this award. To qualify for this honor, the grade point average (GPA) of the entire swimming and diving squad, including all team members on the eligibility list, must be at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. The criteria was broken down into three categories of Commendable (2.80 or better), Excellent (3.00 or better) and Superior (3.25 or better). Both the men's and women's squad met the criteria for Superior status. The men were seventh among all NCAA Division I schools with a cumulative 3.27 GPA while the women were 36th of all NCAA Division I schools with a cumulative GPA of 3.25. The swimming and diving program ended a successful season breaking 13 school records at the BIG EAST Conference Championships in East Meadow, N.Y.
