BETHESDA, Md. - Notre Dame's Casey Martin hit two home runs and drove in five runs to defeat the Georgetown baseball team (7-11), 7-1 at Shirley Povich Field on Friday afternoon. The Hoyas have now dropped the first two games of its three game series against the Fighting Irish. Senior Michael Gaggioli (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) took the loss, allowing five runs, all earned, on six hits, over 6.0 innings. Wade Korpi earned the win for ND, allowing just one run on four hits over 7.0 innings. Martin broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when he hit the Gaggioli offering over the left-centerfield wall, a two-run home shot, giving the Fighting Irish a 2-0 advantage. The Hoyas were able to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Kelly Muir (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) led off with an infield single, before senior Matt Iannetta (Providence, R.I./St. Raphael Academy[UNC]) doubled to drive him in, making the score, 2-1. But in the top of the sixth inning, Martin hit his second home run of the day, a three-run shot, over the left field wall, giving Notre Dame a 5-1. The Irish would add two more to win 7-1. The Hoyas will try to avoid a sweep, as the conclude their three game series against the Fighting Irish at Shirley Povich Field on Saturday at noon.
