Bethesda, MD--The Georgetown University baseball (15-14; 2-3 BE) team lost to Villanova (15-7-1, 4-3) 4-3 in 13 innings on Monday, April 4 at Shirley Povich field. The win gave Villanova the 2-1 edge in the series. Parker Brooks and Mark McLaughlin each tallied a run and a hit, while Brandon Davis added two hits and one run. Billy Quinn had two hits and an RBI. The Hoyas got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first. Senior captain Billy Quinn singled to bring in Parker Brooks. Mark McLaughlin then scored a play later on a error by the catcher to make the score 2-0. The Wildcats cut the deficit to one in the top of the second after Derek Shunk scored on a wild pitch. `Nova then tied it up in the fifth, with Angelo Petracca bringing in Kris Molloy on a sacrifice fly. Georgetown regained the lead in the sixth when Parker Brooks doubled to center field, bringing in Brandon Davis who had singled to right center two plays earlier. The run made the score 3-2. `Nova tied it up in the eighth when Alan Day scored Darren Griffith on a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-3. Both teams remained scoreless through the end of regulation, with the defenses holding strong. In extra innings, both teams had solid play, and the score remained the same until the 13th inning. Villanova scored in the top of the 13th when Petracca scored on a base hit from Derek Shunk. The Hoyas were unable to score in the home 13th and the score would remain the final 4-3.
Ted Aust earned the win for the Wildcats, while Hoya Tom Braun was credited with the loss. Villanova's Mike Grodecki tallied the save. The Hoyas will travel to Coppin State on Tuesday, April 5 at 2:30 pm. |
