May 17, 2007 Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University (20-33, 7-18 BIG EAST) baseball team lost the opener of their BIG EAST series finale to West Virginia (28-21, 9-15 BE) on Thursday night in Morgantown, W. Va., 8-1. Despite the loss, Georgtown stayed alive in the push for the final spot in the BIG EAST Championship next week. Junior Erick Chandler (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Prep) took the loss as he allowed four earned runs off six hits over 3 2/3 innings. Freshman Tim Adleman (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) came on in relief and finished the game, allowing two earned runs on five hits over the final 4 1/3 innings. Adleman also struck out six batters. Georgetown got on the board in the fifth inning after falling behind 6-0. Junior Matt Iannetta (Providence, R.I./St. Raphael Academy) led-off the inning by doubling into the right center gap. With one out, Iannetta advanced to third on a passed ball. After freshman Tom Elliott (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) walked, senior Mark McLaughlin (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle) lifted a fly ball to left that turned into a sacrifice fly when Iannetta crossed home plate. These two squads will play the second game of their three-game series tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
