Hoya Baseball Splits Two With the 'Cats

Box Score Game One

Box Score Game Two

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Georgetown (10-31, 2-20) split a Saturday doubleheader with Villanova (10-26, 4-14), dropping the first 4-3 before rallying to win the second 4-1 at the Ballpark at Plymouth.

In the first game, scheduled for seven innings, Georgetown jumped to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth before the Wildcats tied it up, sending the game into extra innings.

The Hoyas failed to put on across in their half of the eighth and starter Pat Salvitti North Wales, Pa./LaSalle College) found himself in trouble against the ‘Cats, allowing Villanova to load the bases with no out. Salvitti rallied, inducing the next two batters to pop up, and bearing down on the final batter of the eighth, attempting to salvage a dangerous inning. Salvitti worked the count to 3-1 and painted a little too far outside the strike zone to walk in the game-winning run and go to 2-3 on the season. Salvitti pitched seven and two thirds innings, allowing just two earned runs off seven hits.

In the second game Georgetown jumped to a 3-0 lead again on five walks and a hit in the third. The Wildcats put one across in the bottom of the sixth, but starter Kevin Field (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) pitched superbly, striking out eight while allowing only seven hits in eight innings. Stephen Burns (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) came in in the ninth to close the game, earning his second save of the season. Field improves to 2-3 on the season with the win.

Georgetown plays the rubber match today against Villanova at noon.
