Two Georgetown Baseball Players Named to All-BIG EAST Third Team

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown senior centerfielder Mark McLaughlin (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle) and junior left-handed pitcher Michael Gaggioli (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) were named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team for this past season. McLaughlin finished the season ranked among the top-10 nationally in stolen bases with 37, while Gaggioli ranks among the top-100 in earned run average.

McLaughlin led the Hoyas in numerous offensive statistical categories batting from the lead-off spot. He was also tops on the team in batting average (.362), runs (37), hits (76), doubles (17), total bases (107), sacrifice flies (4), on-base percentage (.434) and stolen bases (37). He also tied for the team lead in triples and ranked second in slugging percentage along with finishing third in walks and fielding percentage.

The senior finished with the most multi-hit games of any Hoya this season, with 25. His season-high came against St. Joseph's when he went 5-for-5 with a season-high tying three runs scored. He also went 4-for-6 with another three runs scored in a game against IPFW. McLaughlin also held the second-longest hitting streak of the season at 10 games and was equally good against both left-handers and right-handers, hitting .363 and .362, respectively.

Gaggioli tied for the team lead in starts this season, as he took the hill for the Hoyas 14 times. He finished tops among the starters in ERA (2.86) and earned runs allowed (27), while finishing second in innings pitched (85.0), runs allowed (43), and walks allowed (20). The lefty also finished second on the team in innings pitched per appearance and batters faced per game while winding up third on the team in strikeouts and opponent's batting average.

For the season, Gaggioli went six-plus innings during 10 of his 14 starts, and seven-plus innings during six of them. He allowed three earned runs or less in 12 games, two or less in nine games, and one or less in five games. The junior struck out a season-high eight in his first win of the season against St. Joseph's. He then struck out five batters in a game twice, and four batters in a game five times, including his last four outings of the season.
