Washington, D.C. - Georgetown sophomore forward Jeff Green (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists as the 21st -ranked Hoyas opened up a 16-point halftime lead en route to a 76-57 win over Cincinnati in front of 12,016 fans at the MCI Center Saturday afternoon.
It was the fourth-straight win, and the 13th in the last 15 games, for Georgetown, which improves to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in league play. Cincinnati falls to 14-7 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST.
Georgetown led by three points (7-4) early in the first half and used a 13-2 run over a 6:08 span to open an 18-6 lead on a three-pointer from senior guard Ashanti Cook (Inglewood, Calif./Westchester) at 11:49.
The Bearcats pulled to within nine points, 18-9, on a trey from Chadd Moore, but the Hoyas outscored Cincinnati 10-2 over the next 3:16 - with Green scoring seven points during that span - to take a 28-11 lead on a Green three-pointer with 8:16 to play in the first half. Georgetown's biggest lead of the first half - 36-18 - came on a layup from senior forward Brandon Bowman (Santa Monica, Calif./Westchester) with one minute left.
Leading by 16 points (36-20) at the break, the Hoyas extended it to 21 points on a three-pointer by Green at the 18:20 mark. The team's biggest lead - 27 points, 62-35 - came on a three-pointer from freshman guard Jessie Sapp (New York, N.Y./National Christian Academy, Md.) with 10:13 to play in the game.
The Hoyas had three players in double figures, led by Green, who connected on 8-of-19 shots from the field. Bowman added 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. Cook finished with eight points and five assists and sophomore center Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep) chipped in eight points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Georgetown shot 51.7 percent from the field, connecting on 30-of-58 shots from the field, including 47.6 percent from outside the arc (10-of-21). They were 85.7 percent from the floor, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the line. The Hoyas controlled the boards, grabbing 39 rebounds to Cincinnati's 31. The Hoyas also handed out 22 assists, the second-straight game with at least 20 dishes and the fourth time this season. The team committed only eight turnovers.
Cincinnati was led by James White, who scored a game-high 22 points, and Eric Hicks, who chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.
The 19-point margin of victory is the largest for a Georgetown team against a BIG EAST opponent since beating Rutgers by 19 points, 88-69, in the regular season finale in 2001-02.
