WASHINGTON, D.C. - WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University freshman men's basketball player Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Monroe averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as the Hoyas went 1-1 against No. 2 UConn and No. 3 Pittsburgh. He helped lead the Hoyas past UConn, 74-63 by scoring 16 points, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out four assists last Monday. Monroe added 15 points with a team-high eight rebounds in a 70-54 loss to Pitt on Saturday. Georgetown moved to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play after a week that saw them defeat No. 2 Connecticut and fall to No. 3 Pittsburgh. The Hoyas moved to No. 10 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches' poll. Monroe, a freshman center who has started all 12 games for GU, is averaging 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals, while shooting 56.2 percent from the floor (50-of-89). For the season, Monroe is third on the team in scoring and leads the team in rebounding and blocked shots. The Hoyas travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on No. 13 Notre Dame on Monday, Jan. 5 at Edmund P. Joyce Center.
