Hoyas Fall to #23 Friars…. Georgetown lost a 50-65 road decision on 1/26/04 to the 23^rd ranked Providence Friars. Despite the fact that Gerald Riley broke out of his recent shooting slump, that Ryan Gomes, the Friars’ leading scorer, was held to 8 points and that the Hoyas grabbed 5 more offensive rebounds than their opponents, Georgetown was defeated. Gerald Riley returned to earlier form, leading all scorers with 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the floor, 4of 7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4 for 4 from the sin stripe. Brandon Bowman added 13 tallies and paced GU’s rebounding effort with 6 caroms. 

            The Hoyas opened with a 10-7 lead but then let the Friars run off 12 unanswered. Down 10-21 Georgetown’s shooting touch abandoned them and it was only defensive intensity that prevented the 18-35 halftime score from being even more lopsided.

            In the second stanza the Hoyas improved their shooting (28% to 39.3%) but unfortunately, so did the Friars (52.2% to 55.6%). Georgetown chopped the deficit down to 9 with 14:37 remaining, but three quick whistles against the Hoyas and a pair of treys by Kotti stole Georgetown’s momentum.

            For the game there were 37 turnovers and a total of 18 steals. Georgetown shot 34% while Providence shot 53.7%.  Providence grabbed 28 rebounds to GU’s 26, but the Hoyas had 11 offensive boards to PC’s 6
