Hoyas Drop Third Straight Road Game

2/17/2004

Despite scoring 11 points in the final 55 seconds, the Hoyas fell to the Red Storm 58-65 on 2/18/04 at Madison Square Garden.  Brandon Bowman led Georgetown (13-9, 4-7) in scoring with 20 points and in rebounding with 9 caroms. He also had 3 assists, 3 steals and a block. Ashanti Cook added 10 tallies.

The Hoyas could not get on track in the opening frame as leading scorer Gerald Riley went 0-5 from the field and 2 of 4 from the stripe.  St. John’s seemed to gain confidence from Georgetown’s problems and despite being held to 32.3% shooting from the field, took a 4 point lead into the locker room at intermission, 24-28.

In the second stanza after tying the score at 30 the Hoyas suffered through a series of fouls and turnovers which allowed the home team to build a 9 point lead. Georgetown cut the deficit to 6 or less on four consecutive occasions, but each time the Red Storm answered to keep the Hoyas at bay.

For the game the Hoyas shot 35.6% from the field while St. John’s hit at a 37.9% clip. There were a combined 42 turnovers for the game and the Hoyas lost the battle of the boards 38-40.
