Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University junior standout Jeff Green (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) was named to The Associated Press' All-America Third Team on Monday. Green adds another honor to his list of accomplishments this season. After the conference regular season, he was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year and to the league's first team. Then, after leading the Hoyas to the BIG EAST Tournament Championship, Green was selected as the tournament's most valuable player. He currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game, and is second in both rebounds with 6.2 and assists with 3.2 per contest. Earlier in the season, he became the 37th player in Georgetown history to surpass the 1,000 point plateau and is only the second Hoya, joining Reggie Williams, with 1,300 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists. Green, the 31st All-American in Georgetown history, is the first Hoya to earn AP All-America honors since Allen Iverson was named to the first team after the 1995-96 season. The AP's first team consisted of Kevin Durant of Texas, the only unanimous selection, Ohio State's Greg Oden, UCLA's Arron Afflalo, Wisconsin's Alando Tucker and Texas A&M's Acie Law IV, while the second team included Nick Fazekas of Nevada, Jared Dudley of Boston College, Chris Lofton of Tennessee, Joakim Noah of Florida and Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina. Green was joined on the third team by Aaron Brooks of Oregon, Al Thornton of Florida State, Aaron Gray of Pittsburgh and Al Horford of Florida. Green and the Hoyas embark for the fifth Final Four in the history of the Georgetown program this week, taking on South Regional champion Ohio State on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. Georgetown advanced to the Final Four on Sunday night with a 96-84 overtime win over North Carolina in East Rutherford, N.J.
