Georgetown's Roy Hibbert Earns Associated Press All-American Honors

April 1, 2008

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep) was named a Second Team Associated Press All-American on Monday. It is the highest Associated Press All-American honor for a Georgetown player since Allen Iverson earned first team kudos in 1995-96.

Georgetown finished the 2007-08 season with a 28-6 overall record, won the BIG EAST Regular Season title for the second-straight season and was selected to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season.

Hibbert, a 7-2 center, led Georgetown in scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 13.4 points and 6.4 boards per game. He finished 19th in the BIG EAST Conference in scoring and was tied for 20th in rebounding. Hibbert connected on 60.9 percent of his field goals (179-of-294), which ranked third in the BIG EAST and No. 12 in the country.

In addition, Hibbert led Georgetown in blocked shots with 75 rejections, a 2.21 per game average that ranked third in the BIG EAST and ranked 34th nationally. A strong passer for a big man, Hibbert finished third on the team in assists this season with 63 overall, 1.85 per game.

Hibbert earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors after leading the Hoyas to a 15-3 record in conference action and to the team's eighth regular season conference title in program history. In 18 BIG EAST games, Hibbert averaged 14.4 points and 6.5 rebounds while connecting on 58.5 percent of his field goals (96-of-164).

In 136 career games at Georgetown, Hibbert scored 1,476 points, a 10.9 per game average that ranks 15th all-time at Georgetown. He also ranks among the top-10 all-time at Georgetown in rebounds and blocked shots. Hibbert grabbed 808 rebounds, a 5.9 per game average that ranks eighth all-time, and blocked 259 shots, a 1.90 per game average that ranks fourth all-time on Hilltop.

Hibbert led a senior class that produced a 100-36 record in four years. As a freshman in 2004-05, he averaged 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Hoyas went 19-13 and advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NIT. During his sophomore season in 2005-06, Hibbert averaged 11.6 points and 6.9 rebounds, earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors and helped the team to a 23-10 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. Last year, as a junior, Hibbert averaged 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds, shot 67.1 percent from the floor (186-of-277), earned First Team All-BIG EAST Honors, led Georgetown to the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships and to the Final Four as the team posted a 30-7 overall record.

He joins a list of 20 former Georgetown players who have been named All-Americans by the Associated Press. Three other Hoyas earned second team honors, including Eric Floyd (1980-81), Charles Smith (1988-89) and Alonzo Mourning (1989-90).

This is the second-straight year a Georgetown player has earned All-America honors as Jeff Green was a third-team selection last season.

Hibbert was joined on the Second Team All-America list by Notre Dame sophomore Luke Harangody, Vanderbilt senior Shan Foster, Indiana senior D.J. White and Davidson sophomore Stephen Curry.
