Georgetown's Patrick Ewing, Jr. to Participate in Slam Dunk Contest; Wallace to Play in NABC College All-Star Game on Friday

April 3, 2008

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University senior men's basketball players Patrick Ewing, Jr. (Marietta, Ga./National Christian Academy [Md.]) and Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) will be among a group of players participating in events surrounding the NCAA Final Four this weekend in San Antonio, Texas.

On Thursday night, Ewing, Jr. will take part in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 20th Annual State Farm Slam Dunk Contest, being held at Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University in San Antonio. The event will air on ESPN at 9 p.m. (ET).

Ewing, Jr. will be one of eight competitors in the contest, joining Deron Washington (Virginia Tech), James Gist (Maryland), J.R. Giddens (New Mexico), Brian Randle (Illinois), Joey Dorsey (Memphis), Will Bullard (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and Sonny Weems (Arkansas).

The senior finished the season averaging 6.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season, coming off the bench in 22 games and providing a tremendous spark for the Hoyas. As a result, Ewing, Jr. was presented with the BIG EAST Conference's inaugural Sixth Man of the Year Award.

Wallace, meanwhile, will play for the National Team (sporting blue uniforms) in the DiGiorno College All-Star game, which will be played at the Alamadome on Final Four Friday. The game, being played on the Final Four floor for the first time in history, begins at 6 p.m. (ET) and will be televised on CBS College Sports Television (formerly CSTV).

Wallace will be joined on the National Team by DeMarcus Nelson of Duke, Shan Foster of Vanderbilt and Jason Thompson of Rider. The team will be coached by Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell.

The 6-1, 188-pound guard helped Georgetown to a 28-6 record this season as the Hoyas won the BIG EAST Regular Season title for the second-straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season. He finished third on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg), second in assists (2.6 apg) and led the team with 71 three-point field goals.

Wallace left Georgetown as the school's all-time leader in three-point field goals (240) and second all-time in free throw percentage, connecting on 82.1 percent of his shots (174-of-212) from the charity stripe. Midway through the 2007-08 season, Wallace became the 39th player in Georgetown history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

He finished his career having started every game in the last four years (136) and ranks third all-time at Georgetown in career starts. Wallace averaged 9.2 points for his career and ranked among the top-10 all-time at Georgetown with 379 assists.
