2008-09 Men's Basketball Schedule

Washington, D.C. - Featuring 16 games with opponents who appeared in postseason tournaments last season, including a matchup with an NCAA Finalist and an appearance at the Old Spice Classic, the 2008-09 Georgetown University Men's Basketball schedule was released on Tuesday afternoon. The two-time defending BIG EAST Regular Season Champion Hoyas have 12 nationally televised games, including a pair of contests on CBS.

GU's home slate of BIG EAST opponents will open on Jan. 3 when the Hoyas host Pittsburgh (27-10, NCAA) on ESPN at Verizon Center. Other home BIG EAST contests will include Providence on Jan. 10 and a game against Syracuse (21-14, NIT) on Jan. 14. West Virginia (26-11, NCAA) travels to the Nation's Capital for a game on ESPN on Jan. 22. The Hoyas will then play five of their last nine regular season games of the year at home, starting with Rutgers on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and Cincinnati on Feb. 7. GU hosts Marquette (25-10, NCAA) on Feb. 21, then plays Louisville (24-10, NCAA) on Feb. 23 and closes out the regular season on March 7 against DePaul. The games against Marquette and Louisville are slated to air on ESPN

BIG EAST road matchups begin on Dec. 29 at Connecticut (24-9, NCAA), a game slated to air on ESPN. The Hoyas travel to play at Notre Dame (25-8, NCAA) on Jan. 5, a game that will be broadcast by ESPN. Georgetown will close out the first month of 2009 on the road, playing at Seton Hall on Jan. 25, at Cincinnati (21-12, College Basketball Invitational) on Jan. 28 and at Marquette (25-10, NCAA) on Jan. 31. After two games at home, the team hits the road for two more, playing at Syracuse (21-14, NIT) on Feb. 14 and at USF on Feb. 18. The Hoyas play at Villanova (22-13, NCAA) on Feb. 28 and at St. John's on March 3.

During Thanksgiving Weekend, Georgetown will travel to Orlando to play in the Old Spice Classic at the Disney Sports Complex. First round action will see the Hoyas play Wichita State on Nov. 27. A second round matchup the next day will feature either Siena (23-11, NCAA) or Tennessee (31-5, NCAA) and the team will close out play in the tournament on Nov. 30.

The Hoyas open the season with a pair of games at Verizon Center, first on Nov. 17, hosting Jacksonville, and then on November 22, hosting Drexel. After playing in the Old Spice Classic from Nov. 27-29, Georgetown returns home for five games before starting BIG EAST Conference play. The Hoyas host local rival American (21-12, NCAA) on Dec. 6 and then play Savannah State, coached by 1986 Georgetown alum Horace Broadnax.

The highlight of the pre-league home slate is a date with 2008 NCAA Tournament finalist Memphis (38-2) on Dec. 13. That game will air on CBS and is slated for a 2 p.m. tipoff. Georgetown will also host Mount St. Mary's on Dec. 20 at Verizon Center and Florida International on Dec. 23 before beginning league play.

The Hoyas will also travel to play at Duke on Jan. 17. The game at Cameron Indoor Stadium will air on CBS at 1:30 p.m.
