Oct. 13, 2005

Washington, D.C. - For the second-straight year, Georgetown University will tip off its men's and women's basketball seasons with Midnight Madness. A wide variety of events are planned for the evening, so don't miss your chance to get your first look of the 2005-06 Hoya basketball season!

The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 with Hoyapalooza in the outer parking lot of McDonough Arena. The event, which runs until 8 p.m., serves as a pep rally for all students. The Georgetown University Grilling Society (GUGS) will barbeque, student bands will perform, face painting will be available and fans can make signs to support the Hoyas. There will be a Georgetown basketball trivia contest and many free giveaways. The cost for the event is $3.

Following Hoyapalooza, there will be a tent party beginning at 8 p.m., also in front of McDonough Arena. This event, which runs until 10 p.m., will feature giveaways every 15 minutes and other events. Students can play EA Sports College Basketball '06 on big-screen televisions, take a turn on a mechanical bull and then test their skills at Hot Shot Basketball.

At 10 p.m., the doors to McDonough Arena will open. Until the introduction of the Hoya men's and women's basketball teams, fans will be treated to giveaways including t-shirts and cups, and chances to win a roundtrip flight on Independence Air, free books for one semester from the Georgetown Bookstore and performances by campus groups.

The Georgetown men's basketball team, under the direction of second-year head coach John Thompson III, finished last season with a 19-13 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the BIG EAST. Led by 2005 BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Year Jeff Green (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern), who averaged 13.1 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds, the Hoyas advanced to the Quarterfinals of the NIT last season.

The Georgetown women's basketball team, led by Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy, is coming off a 12-16 season last year, including a 7-9 conference slate and a sixth-place finish in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas are led by sophomore forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), a BIG EAST All-Freshmen selection who averaged 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds.
