Georgetown's DaJuan Summers Named to Wooden Award Watch List

Nov. 10, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University junior men's basketball player DaJuan Summers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) was one of 50 student-athletes selected as a preseason candidate for the 2008-09 John R. Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year trophy. The list is comprised of student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor.

In all, 42 schools and 13 conferences are represented on the Wooden Award Preseason list. The BIG EAST led the way, with 12 individuals from conference schools selected.

Summers is one of three returning starters to a Georgetown team that went 28-6 last year, won its second-straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and was selected to its third-straight NCAA Tournament.

Summers is coming off a sophomore season in which he finished second on the team in scoring, with 11.1 points per game, and second in rebounding, grabbing 5.4 boards per game. A Second Team All-District 4 selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches last season, Summers reached double figures in scoring 20 times last season.

As a freshman, he was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team and was selected to the BIG EAST's All-Tournament Team when the Hoyas beat Pittsburgh to claim the tournament championship. He finished his freshman season in 2006-07 averaging 9.2 points and 3.7 rebounds while hitting 42 three-pointers.

He enters his junior year having started in 67 of 70 games, averaging 10.1 points and 4.5 points. Summers has scored 701 career points.

The Hoyas, who were picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' poll, open the season on Monday, Nov. 17, hosting Jacksonville at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be shown live on MASN, with Jason Knapp and Mark Tillmon calling all of the action.
