Hoyas defeat Spartans 84-48

12/17/2002

Georgetown extended its win streak to 6 on 12/16/02, defeating Norfolk State 84-48. Freshman Brandon Bowman paced the Hoyas in both scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 9 boards. Mike Sweetney chipped in 17 points, Freshman Ashanti Cook added 12 and Wesley Wilson rounded out the quartet of Hoyas in double-figures with 10 tallies.

The Hoyas played the opening minutes as though they had pulled too many all-nighters through exams (which continue this week). Turnovers and poor shot selection saw the Hoyas trail by 7 at the 12:04 mark, 10-17. Georgetown then snapped out of their daze and scored 25 to the Spartans’ 9. The score at intermission was 35-26.

In the second half the Hoyas improved their shooting percentage, took better care of the ball and dominated the glass. They also turned up the defensive pressure, only allowing the Spartans to hit 28% of their shots. The final score was 84-48.

For the game the Hoyas shot 41.9% while Norfolk State converted 28.8% of the time. The Hoyas won the battle of the boards 51-37, and although GU had 22 turnovers, they forced 28.
