Georgetown Opens 2006 Spring Season at Jesuit Invitational Regatta

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown crew team opened the 2006 spring season at the Seventh Jesuit Invitational Regatta on Saturday, March 18 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Hoya men took five of the six 2000m events, while the women posted two first place finishes.

In the men's varsity 8, the Georgetown varsity heavyweight crossed first in a time of 5:50.80, ahead of Holy Cross (5:55.55) and St. Joseph's (5:57.41). The Hoya varsity lightweight was fourth at 6:01.79. Georgetown were first in the second Varsity 8 race with a time 6:02.70.

The Hoyas also won the varsity 4 at 7:03.93, almost 16 seconds ahead of St. Joseph's.

In the lone lightweight 8 race, the Georgetown A squad rowed past St. Joseph's by just under nine seconds. Meanwhile, the Georgetown B was fourth, 16.93 seconds behind the A.

Also having success for the men was the freshman boats. The Georgetown B squad was first in the freshman 8 at 5:57.26, edging St. Joseph's by just over a second and the Georgetown A by just under five seconds. In the second freshman 8 race, the Hoyas were second to the Hawks with a time of 5:45.07.

The Georgetown women were in first place in the varsity 4 and the lightweight 8. In the varsity 4, the Hoyas crossed in 7:28.78 for the victory by just under 14 seconds. Meanwhile, in the lightweight 8, Georgetown beat St. Joseph's by 23.91 seconds.

In the varsity 8 event, the varsity open weight crew finished second just under four second behind Boston College at 6:58.85. Also in that race, the varsity lightweight crew was fifth at 7:16.48.

Also competing for the Georgetown women was freshman 8 who were third at 7:26.36. Also, in the freshman 4, the A squad was third at 8:00.70, while the B crew was fourth 5.3 seconds behind their teammates.
