Georgetown Men's Heavyweight Crew Slides Past Temple

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's crew program took part in three events this weekend, highlighted by the heavyweight squad topping Temple in a race on the Potomac River. In other action, the Hoyas lightweight team was swept by Yale and battled Penn and Princeton for the Wood-Hammond Cup.

In the match-up with Temple, Georgetown topped the Owls in the varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight and novice four, dropping only the second varsity eight race. Aside from the novice eight, the remaining heats were all close with no boat winning by more than eight seconds. In the varsity eight, the Hoyas crossed in 5:54.1, a time of 5.1 second faster than Temple, while in the varsity four, the Hoyas were 4.2 seconds quicker with a time of 7:03.1.

In the race for the Wood-Hammond Cup, Princeton swept the three races - varsity eight, second varsity eight and the novice eight. However, Georgetown rowed past Penn in the second varsity eight and novice eight to finish behind the Tigers.
