Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's crew team took part in three dual matches this weekend, facing Columbia in lightweight and Yale in heavyweight action on Saturday on Mercer Lake and squaring off with Rutgers heavyweight on Sunday on the Raritan River. On Sunday, the Hoyas swept the Scarlet Knights in three races - varsity eight, second varsity eight and the novice eight. Georgetown cruised to the varsity eight victory with a time of 6:09.1, more than 10 seconds faster than Rutgers. However, the final two races were decided by a second or less. In the second varsity eight race, the Hoyas (6:23.0) edged the Scarlet Knights by one second and squeaked by in the novice eight by 0.3 seconds with a time of 6:18.4. Georgetown only managed one event victory in the two dual meets on Saturday on Mercer Lake. In the lightweight match-up with Columbia, the Hoyas won the second varsity eight race with a time of 6:47.06, more than seven seconds faster than the Lions. In the closest race of the afternoon, Columbia (6:57.08) edged the Hoyas by a second and a half in the novice eight. In the heavyweight battle with Yale, the varsity eight race was the most competitive, as the Lions (6:19.20) narrowly beat Georgetown by 3.48 seconds.
