Hoya Heavyweights Lose to Temple on Potomac, Earn Wins in Two of Four Races.

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown Heavyweight Crew team lost a dual race with Temple this past Sunday, May 5, on the Potomac. The Hoyas earned a win in the 2V8, their Freshman Four was victorious against Temple's 3V4 and the Freshman Four "A" lost to Temple's by three-tenths of a second.

Georgetown jumped out to a half-length early and Temple stayed in close contact through the middle of the race to pull even with 500 meters to go. The Owls slightly pulled ahead, but Georgetown made a push during the last 20 strokes to pull even again. In the end however, the crew of Victoria Stulgis, K.C. Clark, Evan McGillen, Matt Lavin and Jack Anderson missed out by the slimmest margin of the day.

"Temple's freshman four has been impressive all season, so we knew we would have our hands full," Georgetown Freshman/Novice Coach Marc Mandel said. "Nevertheless, I'm proud of our effort and the experience gained in such a tight race should pay dividends down the road."

Georgetown's Freshman Four that raced against, and defeated, Temple's 3V4 consisted of Sean Liu, Patrick Opdyke, Will Keleher, Ryan Harbison and Brendan Baumgardner

"This lineup made huge strides through the week and rowed a controlled, consistent race," Mandel added. "I was particularly impressed with the performance of our coxswain, Sean Liu, who steered and called his best race of the year."
