Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown crew team wrapped up the first day of action at the 2006 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta on Thursday on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. In the men's varsity eight pool, Georgetown raced twice on Thursday and qualified for the semifinals on Friday, scheduled for 12:24 p.m. The Hoyas were third in both heat #4 (5:50.21) and the first repechage race (5:53.35). The men's freshman eight squad also advanced to the semifinals, taking part in the `A' race on Friday at 3:15 p.m. To begin the day, the freshman eight was third in the fourth heat with a time of 6:03.01 to move to the repechages stage. The Hoyas won the first repechage race at 5:57.33, more than four seconds ahead of Navy, to continue racing on Friday. Also in action on Thursday was the men's second varsity eight and men's open four. The second varsity four was fourth in heat #3, crossing in 6:00.24, forcing them into the repechage races on Friday at 11:24 a.m. Meanwhile, the open four was third in the third heat (6:49.05) and will now race in the repechage races tomorrow morning at 8:12.
