Georgetown Men's Varsity Lightweight Finish Seventh at 2006 IRA Championships

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown crew program capped off action at the 2006 IRA Regatta on Saturday with two impressive showings in the men's and women's varsity lightweight fields. The women ended action on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. with a second place finish, while the men won the petite final to place seventh.

The Georgetown women's varsity lightweight eight, ranked No. 3 nationally, finished second in the grand final at 6:50.12, less than four second behind Wisconsin.

Meanwhile the men's varsity lightweight eight took over seven seconds off their fifth place time in heat #2 on Friday to win the petite final on Saturday. The Hoyas outlasted Dartmouth by almost four seconds for the win with a time of 5:58.01.

The men's varsity eight was third in the third level final, missing out on second place in a photo finish with Oregon State, who nabbed them by 0.04 seconds, finishing the course in 5:55.42.

Also in action, the men's open four was third in the petite final at 6:50.28, the men's freshman eight was sixth in the petite final (5:59.01) and the men's second varsity eight ended up fourth in the third level final with a time of 6:10.3.
