Georgetown Varsity Eight Claims Victory

With a head wind and mildly choppy water, the Hoyas Heavyweight crew team raced Rutgers on the Raritan River, in New Brunswick, N.J. on April 1, 2001. The Men’s Varsity Eight won their race sealing the Hoyas victory over Rutgers.

In the Men’s Varsity Eight, the team of senior Alex Bea (San Francisco, Calif.), sophomore Noah Bergman (Keene, N.H.), senior Dan Broome-Raines (Lovettsville, Va.), junior John Forrest (Newport News, Va.), senior Erik Hess (Darien, Conn.), sophomore Ed Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa.), junior Nick Stollenmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio), senior Dave Timby (Wynnewood, Pa.), and senior Dave Weiss (Bethesda, Md.) finished with a time of 5:59.01 to edge Rutgers.

Georgetown (6:10.1) fell by three-tenths of a second in the Second Varsity Eight to the Scarlet Knights (6:09.8). Both Novice teams lost as well and the Varsity Four dropped their race.

The Hoyas heavyweight division will next travel to Princeton, N.J. on April 7 to face Cornell.
