Washington, D.C.-- The 15^th Annual George Washington University Invitational Crew Classic, held Saturday, April 13^th in Washington, D.C., saw Georgetown Crew amass 43 total points for a third-place overall finish. The10 participating schools rowed through cross-headwinds with temperatures in the mid-60s. The Georgetown squad finished behind teams from the University of Virginia and the U.S. Naval Academy, which was the overall victor with 66 team points. Navy captured the Gilbert H. Hood, Jr. Point Trophy for its victory.

One of the highlights of the event was the Oliver T. Carr Bowl, which is annually awarded to the fastest men’s heavyweight eight shell. Temple took the trophy for the third year in a row, completing the 2,000-meter course in 5:47.9. Georgetown narrowly missed victory in the event, coming in second-place just two seconds behind Temple. The Howard Wilkins Bowl, which goes to the top women’s eight shell, was awarded to Virginia. This race was also won by a slim, two-second margin, as Virginia finished in 6:35.1 and Columbia in 6:37.3.

Georgetown recorded the best times of the invitational with its Women’s Varsity 8 Petite, Men’s Second Varsity 8 Lightweight, and Men’s Novice 8 Lightweight squads. Georgetown earned its 43 points through these three wins, along with one second-place finish, three third-place finishes, and one fourth-place finish.

Georgetown Men’s Heavyweight Crew will row alongside Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. this Sunday. The women’s team won’t be competing again until a petite race at Radcliffe College in Boston on April 27, but they will be tested a day later at the Big East Challenge in Worcester, Mass. That same weekend, the men’s team will be hosting the Georgetown Invitational here in Washington, DC.
